Have mathematicians finally discovered the hidden relationship between prime numbers?
Well, maybe. Or maybe not. A description of the underlying relationship between prime numbers (those that are only divisible by themselves and 1) has been claimed by a Japanese mathematician named Shinichi Mochizuki in a 500+ page set of proofs and other mathmo jumbo. I won’t pretend to understand even an inkling of the intricacies involved in this work, but it involves something called abc conjecture.
Don’t feel bad if you don’t understand it either, because neither do most mathematicians. This guy is something a Will Hunting-esque genius. Plus I became a biologist so I wouldn’t have to do math like this.
(more at io9, including links to the 500+ pages of studies, if you’re into that)
Ooh awesome.
probably my favorite line from the movie
whaaaaa?! Reblooged~!
Reblogging for the “became a biologist so I wouldn’t have to do math like this.”Truer words, man
